About This Game

Blockwick is a jumbled world full of colorful blocks. Connect all same-colored blocks on the board. Blue with blue, red with red, and so on. Don’t worry about the white crates though—they just get in the way.

If you get stuck on a puzzle, don’t fret. Just look for the hidden moon pearl. Finding the moon pearl in a puzzle will allow you to open the next puzzle.

The further you progress the more special blocks you’ll meet. Some are bolted down and are permanently stuck. Some blocks are asleep and can’t move until they’re woken up (set down a same-colored block next to it to wake it up). Entangled blocks are connected together by quantum forces—when one moves so do the others. Blocks that are entangled share the same symbol.

Eventually you’ll meet even more devious blocks. Sticky blocks are gooey and will stick to other blocks. You can't pick them up directly; they can only be pushed and pulled around with other blocks and crates. Caterpillar blocks are linked to each other like a train; they can only be moved with the head or the tail. Hypno blocks don’t need to be connected to solve a puzzle, but they’ll cause a lot of pain. The hypno puts any colored block to sleep if you set one down right next to it. Finally, flip blocks have six sides. When you move them, they flip to a different side, exposing a new color.

Oh, did you notice the strange glyphs on the ground? Each puzzle has three. Try to cover them all up with groups of linked blocks to master the puzzle. It’ll be more tricky, but it’s good for your brain.

That’s about it. Have fun!

Simple clever puzzles. A brilliant execution of the block-pushing puzzle genre. STRONGLY recommend if you like that kind of puzzle.

I never played the (mobile only?) original, so the title and developer were unfamiliar to me, and I don't know exactly which features were already present in that first entry.

The premise is fairly simple: join like-colored blocks together in contiguous groups (white blocks are the neutral exception).

This game does something that many puzzle games (at least on Steam) often overlook: offering several different puzzle gimmicks, easing you into them, and giving you lots of different use cases for each one without getting repetitive. Each specialty block concept has a set of 16 stages dedicated to exploring how that block can function. Once you've mastered a specialty block, that block type might make an appearance in a later zone, so you'll get to see how it interacts with (or obstructs) your current block type.

Some stages feature huge blocks that are difficult to maneuver; others are claustrophic - loaded up with so many blocks that there's very little room to move; others are partitioned into multiple rooms that don't connect but must function together.

Puzzles are unlocked in sequence, but the devs have mercifully included, in every level, a hidden pearl that will allow you to skip to the next puzzle if you get stuck (though even if you don't get stuck, you might want to seek them out anyway). A puzzle is considered "solved" once all the colors are grouped, but each puzzle also has a "true" solution which requires solving the puzzle while all 3 of the floor's glyph spaces are occupied by a colored block. This is a nice added challenge for the compulsive completionists.

The "Basics" level pack has also been added in, bringing an additional 144 puzzles. Basics puzzles are less complex and don't make use of all the specialty block types (which is fine!), but they do have glyphs and pearls.

The visual style is clean and bright. The art isn't cluttered, so you're able to keep your focus on the blocks. The backgrounds are just slightly tinted, and you can differentiate between the white blocks and the "island" walls. The music is pleasant and ambient but not boring. There's also a surprising number of tracks for this type of game.

Note: I don't know if this game (as of this writing) will be accessible to colorblind players. I haven't seen any colorblindness options in the menu, and differentiating color is an absolutely integral part of every puzzle. Many of the colors appear to be roughly similar in value, so they might not be very distinguishable in greyscale.

Illumination out of ten.. The game is really good, I would recommend it. It's more for puzzle professionals than beginners. What I personally do not like is that it has too many levels. I do not have all the levels through but if I'm right it should be 304 of which more than the half are really tricky.. Blockwick is an excellent, challenging, relaxing puzzle game. It encourages a sense of "flow" better than many games. I really enjoy that it worked on my Thinkpad w510 touchscreen laptop in Linux. Kudos to the devs on that.. A great puzzle game about sliding block in tight spots to group by color.

Where the old Klotski could get repetitive, Blockwick never repeats the same configuration and introduces special blocks to keep things interesting.

Each level has the chance of being solved or illuminated. Even if a level is hard, you can move to the next level if you find a hidden pearl. If you find a hard level you can at least move on and come back later.

The set of Basic levels added after the initial release is easier than the normal levels but they are still some extra fun.

Very recommended if you're the thinker type.

Small cons:

* Undo is limited to one movement. After that there's only the option to restart the level. And even then, this is not too bad since when you're stuck, trying a new fresh solution can be the best idea.
* Music is pleasant but the tracks are short and it will get repetitive. Easy to silence, of course.. Highly polished puzzle game inspired by Huarong Dao / Klotski / Rush Hour etc.. It has tiered solutions (simply solve a level, solve it the hard way, or just find a hidden pearl to skip it), so you can choose your preferred way of playing. Easily recommended.. Blockwick 2 has a lot to offer. There are quite a few puzzles, and as you get further and further in, they get harder and harder. Plus, each level has challenges: find the pearl (easy) and illumination (hard), which will keep you scratching your head as you try to solve each one. At this time, I've not completed every puzzle, though I'm close, and I've already spent 20+ hours in the game!

If you like puzzles, for the price you pay, this is a great deal!
